9 Ways to Recharge Without Taking a Vacation

Success in any endeavor depends upon being rested and ready to take on everyday challenges. If a vacation isn't in your budget this year, or you just don't have the time, here are nine easy ways you can recharge:
  1. Hit the beach. If you live near an ocean, lake, river or even a nice swimming pool, taking a day to cool off can do wonders. Water can provide a soothing space to reflect (no pun intended!).

  2. Take your workout outside. If you typically workout in the gym, take it outdoors. Giving your body extra sun will improve your mood and give a nice glow to your skin—just don't forget the sunscreen!

  3. Brainstorm in the bookstore. An aimless trip to your local bookseller is a great way to discover new inspiration. Chances are, you'll leave with some great ideas, or at the very least, a great book!

  4. Try a staycation. Plan for some relaxing activities you can do in the comfort of your own home. Make sure to stock up on all the food, games and movies ahead of time!

  5. Or a playcation. What makes kids so happy? They know how to play! Try a picnic with friends, and don't forget the Frisbee! Perhaps a team sport is more you, or picking up a musical instrument. Think about what you enjoyed doing as a kid. Chances are you can find something that will recapture that feeling today.

  6. Unwind with audio. With audiobooks and seminar recordings it's easy to renew your excitement, get educated or be entertained while still doing activities like exercising, driving or flying for business. Almost anything you want to know is available on audio.

  7. Attend a conference. Conferences and seminars are a great way to learn something new and meet fresh faces, without too much pressure. If you want to take a small risk, attend a seminar outside your area of expertise for a boost of inspiration.

  8. Spa things up! Booking a massage or spa day can be a great way to relax both body and mind, without spending a lot of time. If you've got room in your budget, a little pampering can go a long way.

  9. Try working remotely. A recent Stanford study found remote workers made 13.5 percent more calls in the same amount of time, quit 50 percent less, and reported more happiness on the job. Make sure to take advantage of the ability to work outside in the fresh air, take more frequent breaks or change up your scenery.
