Crowd Control

 Crowd Control

Theme parks, festivals, zoos, ball games and carnivals are lots of fun, but they often involve big crowds. The potential to be accidentally separated from children is always looming. Help protect kids and keep them safe in case they get lost in a crowd with these tips:

Take a snapshot of children with your smartphone the morning of the event, so you have the most current hairstyle and exact clothing to give to authorities or official personnel.

Advise kids under 10 to "stay put" if you get separated. Make sure they understand you will look for them, not the other way around. Remind kids not to go near any exits or parking lots if they become lost.

Kids over 10 who can identify and navigate to landmarks (such as an information center, lifeguard station or other official spot) can have designated meet-up locations in case you're separated. Avoid entrances, exits or parking lots where predators could perch.

Write your number on the inside of your child's wrist or another inconspicuous area and create a waterproof barrier using a liquid bandage. You can also use permanent marker, which won't wash off for a few days.

Follow the lights. Glow Stick necklaces are a fun way to keep track of kids after nightfall. The kids will love wearing them, and you'll be able to see them more easily in the dark.

Track them down. PocketFinder is a GPS tracking device you can attach to clothing or backpacks allowing you to use your smartphone to track your child's location in real time and designate "safe zone" alerts.

No matter how watchful you are over your kids, large crowds can increase the challenge of keeping track of them, especially if there's more than one! These tips will ensure you're prepared, so you can spend more time enjoying the day rather than worrying.
