Game Day Chip Chomp

Football playoffs, basketball season and hockey season are in full swing, and that means keeping those hungry fans content. Nachos, chips and crisped baguette dishes are an easy, inexpensive way to win the game. And you can prepare several ingredient combinations to score a great play!

Tex-Mex Nachos
(Serves 6)
  • 8 cups of tortilla chips
  • 1 can refried or black beans
  • 3 cups shredded cheddar
  • 1 jar salsa
  • 1 can jalapeños (sliced or diced)
Simply spread 8 cups of tortilla chips on a rimmed baking sheet or in a shallow oven-safe dish. Top with 1 can refried or black beans and 3 cups shredded cheddar. Then bake for about 7 minutes at 450 degrees in the upper third of the oven until the cheese is melted. Top with salsa and pickled jalapeños.


Pita Pizazz
(Serves 4)
  • 4 cups pita chips
  • 1 cup hummus
  • 1 cup diced cucumber
  • 1 cup tomatoes
  • 1 cup feta cheese crumbles
  • 1/4 cup Kalamata olives
  • 1/4 cup red onion
  • 1/4 cup tzatziki sauce
  • 1/4 cup oregano
If you want a delicious no-bake treat, simply spread pita chips on a serving platter and top with ingredients. Serve room temperature.


Pizza Supreme
(Serves 4)
  • Baguette (sliced lengthwise)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 Italian sausages (hot and sweet varieties)
  • 1 onion sliced thin
  • 1 bell pepper sliced thin
  • 2 cups canned pizza sauce
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan
  • 1 bunch fresh basil
Toss both halves of a sliced baguette with olive oil, then spread on a baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees until crisp (about 7 minutes). In a skillet with olive oil, sauté 4 sliced Italian sausages (mixing hot and sweet varieties for more flavor) with 1 sliced onion and 1 sliced bell pepper. Top baguette slices with 2 cups canned pizza sauce, sausage mixture, 3 cups shredded mozzarella and 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan. Bake at 375 degrees until the cheese is melted (approximately 7-10 minutes), and then sprinkle with chopped basil.
