How to Share Streaming Services

Streaming services, like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Video, make watching your favorite shows and movies easy on any device. Because of this easy access, sharing account information has become common practice, but each service has its own rules and restrictions regarding password sharing, the number of activated devices, and streams that can run at once.

Knowing the rules can help you understand terms of use agreements and decide which service is right for you.

Netflix limits how many devices can stream simultaneously from the same account based on plan levels. The basic plan allows viewing from one screen at a time, the standard plan allows two screens at a time, and the premium plan lets you stream up to four screens at once. So as long as you are not viewing on too many devices simultaneously, you can share your access without any issues.

Hulu offers two streaming plans: Limited Commercials and No Commercials. In addition, Hulu with Live TV is currently in beta testing. Hulu allows users to create profiles for different family members in the same account, so everyone can have a viewing experience tailored to their personal interests.

Amazon Video allows streaming up to three different titles at once on different devices for Prime members. However, you cannot stream the same title on more than one device at a time. The Amazon Household service allows two adults and up to four children to access shared Amazon Prime benefits.

If you are not interested in a paid streaming service, Crackle is a free, ad-supported service from Sony Pictures Entertainment. Crackle offers movies, reruns of popular television shows and original programming. Movies can be viewed via most digital devices, streaming devices and gaming consoles.
