Grilled Pizza

This recipe for a grilled pizza is the perfect way to celebrate your new house. Invite some friends over and serve this easy, delicious pizza that everyone is sure to enjoy.

Things you need:
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 8 oz. fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • .5 cup sliced roasted peppers
  • 4 oz. thinly sliced hot or sweet capicola
  • 1 cup micro greens or pea shoots
  • .5 bunch fresh basil

Step 1: In order to prepare the pizza dough, whisk one cup of warm water with the sugar in a small bowl. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let stand for approximately 10 minutes. Then, add in the olive oil.

Step 2: Whisk the flour and salt in a large bowl. Create a well in the center of the bowl and pour in the yeast mix and stir. Then, pull the dough out onto a floured area and knead until smooth for approximately five minutes. Roll into a ball, move to a large oiled bowl, and coat with oil. Turn the ball seam side down and cover with plastic wrap. Leave at room temperature and wait for it to rise. This should take approximately one hour and 30 minutes.

Step 3: Pre-heat your grill to medium-high. Grill the vegetables on a baking sheet and top with salt, pepper, and olive oil. Add the rest of the toppings to the baking sheet and place it near the grill. During this time, you can also create the tomato sauce. Grill three tomatoes until they are fully charred. This takes approximately 10 minutes. Move to a bowl, add one chopped garlic glove, two tbsp. of olive oil, and dash with salt and pepper. Allow the tomato sauce to cool and then beat into a sauce.

Step 4: Change grill heat to medium-low. Cut the dough in half and cover with flour. Roll each piece into a 7x12 inch rectangle that is about 1/8-inch thick. Cover an inverted baking sheet with olive oil and place each crust onto it. Place the dough pieces on the grill with the oil side down and cook until the dough puffs up. This should take approximately five minutes or less.

Step 5: Use tongs to flip the dough pieces and then brush with olive oil. Top with tomato sauce and mozzarella. Place the grilled vegetables on top. Cover the grill and cook until the cheese is completely melted. This should take approximately five minutes.

Step 6: Carefully move the pizza to a cutting board. Add capicola, greens, basil, and olive oil.

Serve and enjoy.
