However, wood-burning fireplaces require a lot of work, and they are often quite messy. A great alternative to a wood-burning or gas fireplace is to install an electric one. Let's look at some of the benefits you'll get with an electric fireplace. No messy ashes to clean up. Once the fire has died down and gone cold, you eventually have to clean the ashes from the fireplace, and this is a messy job. You don't have any ashes to clean with an electric fireplace. No wood to bring in. Firewood is expensive to buy, and you have to have a dry place to store it. Bringing it into the house is a chore, and if there are bugs in the wood, you'll be bringing them into the house as well. You don't need firewood with an electric model. No smoke or fumes. Burning wood creates smoke, and if there are any leaks in the fireplace, smoke can enter into your home which is unpleasant and unhealthy. Gas fireplaces can also leak resulting in toxic fumes. The electric version simply plugs into the wall, eliminating smoke or gas fumes. Save on energy bills. An electric fireplace is a great source of supplemental heating. Instead of running your heater all the time, you can use the electric fireplace to heat just the room or area you're sitting in. They are versatile. There are lots of different models and designs of electric fireplaces to choose from. You can put a wall-mounted one in the bedroom, and in the living room you can have a large electric fireplace that also serves as an entertainment center.
