Process Ownership

Process Ownership

Many of us get stuck or plateau when pursuing goals because we're so focused on the end result rather than the journey to get there. While dedication to a final product is important, taking ownership of the process can help you stay focused and push through those challenging moments. Consider using these useful tips to keep you mindful of your progress as you work toward your goals, both personal and professional:

Give yourself time. Set time aside each day, week, or at other regular intervals to pursue your goals. Create an agenda with manageable tasks to help keep you on track.

Make your goals specific. Vague or generalized objectives inevitably lead to vague attempts to reach the goal. The clearer you are with yourself about what you want to achieve, the better prepared you'll be to meet the mark.

Expect challenges. Know that the start and end of your project will be easier than the middle. Prepare for that drop in enthusiasm or impending challenges by prioritizing your goals so that you're ready when distraction hits.

Bend when you need to. Sometimes it's not possible to meet every benchmark you've set for yourself along the way. Give yourself some grace, readjust as needed, and get back on track knowing that you can still achieve your goals.

Do it right. Avoid taking shortcuts in your journey that could impact the integrity of your final product. Commit yourself to doing it right the first time to feel pride and ownership in your work.
