Keep Your Home Warm Inexpensively
Staying warm at home all winter long can be a challenge, especially if you're trying to keep your energy bills under control. Follow these tips to maintain a warm, cozy atmosphere indoors without having to blast the heat:
Add rugs. If you have hard flooring in your home, cover open spaces with area rugs to maintain a warmer feel. Rugs can prevent heat from escaping through the floorboards in the home and make your feet feel a bit cozier as well.
Use heat-generating appliances. During the summer months, you probably avoid using your oven and wait until the sun goes down to use the dryer. Make the switch during the winter and use your appliances more frequently to help warm up your space while getting some chores done. When you finish cooking dinner in the oven, turn it off and leave the door cracked open to allow the heat to move into your living space.
Boost the insulation. The insulation in your home impacts its energy efficiency, so look for ways to prevent heated and cooled air from escaping. You can add or replace weatherstripping around your windows and at the bottoms of your exterior doors, as well as cover your windows with more efficient coverings.
Invest in warmer bedding. Allowing your indoor temperature to drop when you sleep can keep your energy bills under control, but you may wake up feeling chilly. Combat this problem by investing in cozy bedding, such as fleece or flannel sheets, a thick down comforter, or an electric blanket. You can even slip a hot water bottle between the sheets for an added boost of warmth when you climb into bed at night.
With these tips, you can avoid costly energy bills without shivering your way through the winter months.
