5 Plants for Your Home Office

5 Plants for Your Home Office

No matter if you've had a home office for several years or found yourself setting up a spot at home within the last year, you might still be working on making the space your own. Bringing in a little greenery can brighten up the area and purify the air, but make sure to keep plants out of reach of pets and small children though, as some of them can be toxic. Consider adding one of these five easy-to-care-for plants to your home office.

Peace lilies: One of the easiest plants to grow, peace lilies have tropical-looking leaves and only need low light during the spring and summer. To encourage them to flower, place them near indirect light in the fall and winter.

Snake plants: Also called mother-in-law tongues due to their sharp-pointed leaves, snake plants can survive on low light levels and minimal watering. However, keep them away from drafty windows and doors in the winter.

Spider plants: These plants do well sitting atop a bookshelf or in a hanging basket. They also prefer to dry out completely between waterings and will flourish even if your office doesn't receive a lot of light.

Succulents: Low-maintenance succulents do well with artificial lighting or whatever sunlight can reach them indoors. They usually need a specific type of soil and just enough water to keep them from shriveling.

ZZ plants: Officially called Zamioculcas zamiifolia, these plants thrive in moderate to bright light environments. They also require little water, so you don't need to worry about watering them constantly.

Working in an office setting, even one in your own home, can sometimes be stressful. You might even forget to eat lunch because you're so busy. Thankfully, most of these five low-maintenance plants can survive a few days without water. When you have time, head over to your local nursery and pick up a few of these plants to spruce up your workspace.
