Digital vs. Paper Planner: How to Choose

Digital vs. Paper Planner: How to Choose

To help yourself become better organized and productive, you might want to consider using a planner. This valuable tool allows you to keep track of your tasks, appointments, and other reminders so you stay on-task and maximize your time.

When looking at planner options, you can choose between digital or paper. A digital planner involves recording everything on a digital platform, such as a computer or smartphone, while a paper planner involves physically writing everything down on an agenda. So how do you know which one works best for you?

A digital planner is an ideal choice if you're someone who needs to modify entries often. Also, if you collaborate with others and need to check others' availability, this option lets you sync your planner with other apps so you can view the information in various places such as another computer or smartphone.

The disadvantage of a digital planner is that you're reliant on either the internet or a power source to access the information. You also run the risk of your information being available to others unless you are proactive about privacy settings.

On the other hand, a paper planner has several advantages. Several studies have shown that writing on paper aids with retaining information and stimulating your brain with problem-solving skills. It's also easier for you to focus since paper doesn't have distractions like a computer or smartphone does.

However, you need to carry around the planner for it to be effective. If you forget the planner for an important meeting, you cannot simply pull it up on your phone or computer. You also cannot search for information quickly like you can with a digital planner, where you can perform a search command. Also, if you want to repeat a task, you must write in each entry, unlike a digital planner where you can simply copy and paste.

Choosing a digital or paper planner is a matter of personal preference, so there's no right or wrong choice. Determine what you need from the planner, and figure out which option works best for your needs.
