Wrinkle Wranglers

Wrinkle Wranglers

Whether you're at home and in a rush or out on the road without a complimentary iron at your hotel, these tips can help save you from looking like a hot (wrinkly) mess.

If you're at home ...

The tumble ... on ice! Two cubes of ice (or a damp sock) and a clothes dryer on high heat for about 15 minutes will send those wrinkles packing. As the ice melts it creates steam that smooths the fabric. Just make sure your item is dryer-safe.

The steamy tea. For small wrinkles, boil some water in your teapot. Then, hold the steaming kettle about 12 inches from the garment.

The hot pot. Find a clean and smooth-bottomed cooking pot. Boil water, and then dump it out. The pot will be hot enough to iron your item. Just make sure to use pot holders because the pot will be hot!

Shower power. Most people know you can rid yourself of wrinkles by hanging clothes outside of a hot shower. What you may not know is that it takes about 15 minutes to work, so save water by doing your morning routine at the same time.

If you're on the road ...

Flat iron fix-it. The same principle that straightens your hair will also get smaller wrinkles out of a shirt or blouse. Use the high setting for cotton, low for silk. If you'll be wearing a coat all day, save time and just hit the collar. Don't forget to wipe product build-up off the flat iron plates first.

The blowout. Hold a hair dryer about two inches from the garment to prevent scorching and blast with bursts of hot air.

The spritzer. Wrinkle release sprays, like Downy Wrinkle Releaser or The Laundress Crease Release, are easy to throw in your carry-on. Lay clothes on a flat surface, spritz, smooth out wrinkles and let dry.

Towel time. Lay your wrinkled garment on a flat, hard surface. Place a damp towel over the wrinkled clothing and press down to smooth. Hang until dry.

Whether you're home or out and about, with these tips you'll never be stuck with puckered pants or a crinkled collar again!
