Gamify Those Tedious Tasks Do you ever feel as if household chores or other tasks are just too boring to complete? You might feel like you lack the motivation to complete the most menial of tasks. One way you can remedy this issue is to "gamify" them or turn these tedious projects into fun and competitive exercises to keep yourself engaged and motivated. Gamification can boost productivity, whether it involves chores at home or workplace tasks. The reason it works well is that it creates the feeling of being rewarded for completing whatever kind of task, no matter how small it is. However, this powerful tool needs to have clear rules and end goals; otherwise, it can lead to frustration. Because it triggers powerful emotions, gamification makes tasks fun and engaging. Think of playing a video game and the feeling you might experience whenever you complete a task to move on to another level. You find that you're constantly rewarded as you build your skills and achieve small victories. Simple and low-tech ways you can gamify your work and life is to define your goals and then assign a reward correlating with how difficult or important it is to reach that goal. For instance, if you have a huge project at work, break that down into smaller "missions," which you work on daily or weekly. Track your progress, and reward yourself once your each a mission. Maybe you'll treat yourself to dinner, the spa, or a trip. To help you stay on-task and motivated, consider implementing a gamification system. Doing so can spur innovation and help you be more invested in your performance, helping you achieve your goals.
