Avoid Holding Yourself Back From a New Career

Avoid Holding Yourself Back From a New Career

When it comes to your career, do you sometimes feel like your worst enemy? Do you occasionally have destructive work habits that interfere with professional development? If so, know that you're not alone and you can change these self-sabotaging habits.

Follow these steps to help you branch out and have a more fulfilling career:

Avoid the fear of failure. When you've been in your job for a while, you begin to feel comfortable. Stepping outside of it can feel overwhelming and you might start questioning if you can even do these new tasks. Fear and action can't coexist, so take small steps to jump into that new role.

Don't compare yourself to others. Career progression is different for everyone, no matter if you're in the same profession or work for the same company. Comparing yourself can sabotage your career and cause you to lose confidence. Instead, use this energy to motivate you. Take inventory of all you're grateful for since it's hard to be envious and grateful at the same time.

Stop procrastinating. Are you someone who waits until the last minute to tackle a project? This is a type of self-destructive behavior and can cause you to doubt your abilities. Instead, set hard deadlines to hold yourself accountable.

Stay away from negative self-talk. Your inner dialogue is constantly critical, and you might find yourself constantly saying that you're not good enough or punishing yourself for past mistakes. Be patient, and make a strong effort to build up your self-esteem instead of knocking it down.

It's imperative to find career satisfaction and success on your own. Creating internal roadblocks can only hurt your progression, voiding you of a potentially more fulfilling career. Once you become aware of these self-sabotaging habits, do all that you can to rid yourself of them. You are worthy of wanting and having more, so embrace the possibilities.
