6 Leadership Styles

6 Leadership Styles

Businesses cannot be successful without leadership, and leaders are more than just someone who has seniority or a fancy title. A person's leadership style refers to the methods and behaviors used to direct and motivate others. If you're looking to become a leader in your organization, know more about these six leadership styles.

Authoritative. Often referred to as visionaries, authoritative leaders are considered mentors to their followers. They tend to get to know members of their team so they can give guidance and feedback as motivation.

Delegative. Also called laissez faire, delegative leadership is one of the least intrusive types. This leader doesn't want to micromanage or be too involved in issuing guidance or feedback.

Situational. Those who are situational leaders change their management style based on the particular situation. This approach can encourage others to be more proactive thanks to constant feedback provided by the leader.

Strategic. This type of leader typically delegates to share the weight of decision-making. Many companies desire a strategic leader because it encourages visualization, planning, and utilizing resources.

Transformational. These leaders take control and communicate with their group to create a shared vision. They emphasize change and transformation, seeking to inspire others via inspiration.

Visionary. Visionary leaders focus on the future and encourage collaboration and teamwork. This type of leadership allows others to work toward a particular vision.

A leader needs good instincts to help develop a leadership style. Keep in mind that there is no best style of leadership, so if you have aspirations of being a leader, you should figure out what style works well for you and your environment. Hone your leadership skills to help your business and fellow employees grow.
