4 Hygge Tips A Danish word that's used to describe someone who enjoys life's simple pleasures, hygge is now a fundamental part of the culture. It began as a concept and lifestyle but has since encompassed decor. Any type of mess can cause stress, which is the opposite of adhering to a Danish lifestyle. During the winter, you can make a cozy hygge home environment by following these four tips: Decorate with candles. The soft glow of a candle can create a warm radiance and cast a light on a winter evening. Use a candle with a warm scent that evokes feelings of coziness. Highlight warm elements. It doesn't get much cozier than lighting a fire when the weather gets cold. Place some chairs around the fireplace to establish the ultimate sanctuary. Use textures. The perfect textures are just as important when it comes to hygge. Aim for a variety of textures, such as warm knits and soft sherpas for a comforting feel to the space. Bring the outside in. A healthy and happy home is one that incorporates nature. Sometimes it's too cold to venture outside, so bring the outside indoors. Think huge tables made from massive trees and big piles of logs ready to throw on a roaring fire. Bringing hygge into your home can bring forth feelings of contentment and coziness, both of which you may welcome during the colder winter months. Visit your local home decor store to pick up elements that embrace the little luxuries every day and foster a sense of comfort and kinship.
