Switch to generic drugs. Some generic drugs can cost up to 80 percent less than brand names. Also, check that your insurer covers brand name prescriptions at all. Take advantage of preventative care benefits. Many medical insurance plans are required to cover certain preventative care services with no out-of-pocket costs for you. Check out what free annual preventive care services are covered under your plan. Ask your doctor about cheaper facilities for care. In-network outpatient facilities are often more affordable for major procedures than they would be at a hospital, even when using the same doctor.
