Keeping Goals for Success Simple However, what they tell you to do isn't always going to work because they leave out vital information, their field isn't the same as yours, or their skill set is what helped them get to that level of success. Instead of trying to model your efforts on the backs of others, stick to the basics and know when to listen to your instinct. It's perfectly fine to define what your pinnacle of success is. After all, that's what you're seeking. But you also need to be realistic about the goals you set along the way. Be realistic about the plans you make and maintain fluidity. Ask yourself what you think you'll accomplish when you set a goal. Is it too high? Is the time frame too short? Do you think you can accomplish those things in that timeline, or should you build in buffers along the way? One of the easiest things to do when seeking success is to be hard on yourself. The fact is, you're the one who's setting the goals, and you're the one holding yourself accountable. Maybe you're telling your friends and work colleagues that you intend to achieve A, B, and C by a set date and think that you have to prove to everyone that you can do just that. The only thing you lose when you don't achieve a goal is time. And the only person you fail is yourself, and even then, it's not a failure. Accept that you are human and have your limitations, and you will find that you'll still reach your dream of success despite the speed bumps along the way.
