Wouldn't it be handy to have your refrigerator tell you if you left the door open or you need milk? Smart, or connected, refrigerators have these features and many more. What exactly is a smart refrigerator? It's a refrigerator that is connected to the cloud and has features such as a touch-screen interface that connects to Wi-Fi and your smartphone or tablet. While different manufacturers offer various features, many of the higher-end smart refrigerators have an internal camera so that you can remotely see what's inside of the fridge. This is a handy feature when you're shopping and forgot your grocery list. With the touch-screen interface, you can look up recipes, create calendars for the whole family to view and coordinate, or watch TV that's in another room while you're in the kitchen. The transparent touch screen allows you to look inside the fridge without opening the door, which helps with energy savings. Other features to look for include being able to remotely control the ice maker, receiving alerts when the water filter needs changing, and the ability to control each drawer and compartment for temperature and humidity. If your hands are full, sensors will open the door for you with a simple foot gesture, and if the door is left open for a certain amount of time, the refrigerator pulls it closed automatically.
