Unique Attic Makeover Ideas

Unique Attic Makeover Ideas

An attic tends to be a rather unutilized area, especially because most people conjure up images of a creepy crawl space or empty storage space whenever they think of that space. Don't let those preconceived ideas deter you from turning your attic into something fabulous.

With a little hard work, a few supplies, and a couple of days, you can transform an attic into perhaps one of the loveliest rooms in your entire home.

Turn it into a reading nook. Use the sloped ceilings and design the space with lower furniture and scaled artwork. This can give the appearance of higher ceilings. Place an upholstered bench, small side table, and a reading lamp and the attic makes a perfect reading nook.

Make it into a studio. Depending on the size of your attic, you might be able to transform it into a studio apartment, complete with a kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. You could also make a profit with the space by renting it out as an apartment.

Add another bathroom. If you're completely unsure what you want to do with the attic space, putting in an additional bathroom is never a bad idea. An extra bathroom will not only increase the value of your home but it can also provide another place to send guests instead of the main bathroom.

Transform it into a closet. Even though you might already use that unfinished attic as storage space, you can turn the space into a closet. Turn it into a glamorous and private dressing room by adding crisp white paint, a dresser, and a stool.

Before you get started, make sure your attic meets local building codes and you secure necessary building permits. You might also need to contact an HVAC company to look at the space's current heating and cooling system to determine if any additional ductwork is needed. Once you take care of those items, you can get started on renovating the attic and turning it into your dream space.
